Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel today launched a free internet service at the Gongabu-based New Bus Park area. This initiative marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to enhance connectivity in the Kathmandu Valley.
According to National News Agency Nepal, providing free internet services in key locations within the Kathmandu Valley was the first decision made by Minister Kharel after taking office on September 22. During the launch event, the Minister announced that free internet services are now available at 19 locations throughout the Kathmandu Valley, including the New Bus Park. He further committed to expanding this service beyond the valley, aiming to offer it in the capitals of all seven provinces.
The Minister emphasized the government’s focus on extending internet access to remote areas. Regions such as Darchula, Bajhang, Jajarkot, and Tilicho Base Camp in Manang are already connected, and the government is prioritizing the improvement of internet quality in Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Rautahat, Myagadi, and Baitadi.
Present at the launch event were Radhika Aryal, Secretary at the Ministry, and Bhupendra Bhandari, Chair of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, among others.
