Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has vowed government support in the development of the film industry. During a meeting with filmmakers in collaboration with the Film Development Board on Thursday, Minister Kharel indicated that policy reforms would be advanced to enhance the film sector comprehensively. He emphasized the need for films that inspire the nation, society, and its citizens, while also sparking new discussions.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel highlighted that cinema serves as a mirror to society, underlining the importance of film content and scripts that aim to guide the nation, society, and its people. He noted that a film’s plot should connect with contemporary themes, as innovative aspects appeal to audiences. Kharel committed to providing active support during his tenure for the benefit of the film sector, the country, and its people.
Minister Kharel stated that the Ministry is prepared to support and collaborate on any initiatives that would benefit the film sector, calling for suitable recommendations for the Central Film Censor Board. On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry, Radhika Aryal, assured that the Ministry would contribute to the sustainable growth of the film industry.
Chairman of the Film Development Board, Dinesh DC, encouraged the government to support the construction of new cinema halls in various districts or cities. He also sought government assistance in amending the Film Act to further bolster the industry.
