Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday held a crucial meeting with Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal to discuss comprehensive preparations for the forthcoming National Assembly election scheduled for January 25, 2026, and the House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Home Minister Aryal assured the EC of the government’s commitment to providing all necessary resources to ensure a peaceful and secure election process. He emphasized the government’s initiative to increase youth participation by amending the Voter List Act, 2073, through an ordinance that extended the voter registration deadline. Additionally, he highlighted the government’s support in integrating the voter registration system with the National Identity Management Information System.
Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari expressed that the EC has been methodically preparing for these elections since their announcement. He conveyed gratitude to the government for its support and underscored the importance of government roles in creating a conducive electoral environment, managing resources, ensuring security, and facilitating the elections’ successful conduct.
