Kathmandu: Activists and intellects engaged in the democratic movement conveyed their perspectives on the nation’s current challenges, particularly the election, during a discussion organized by the Democratic Thoughts Society in Kathmandu on Friday.
According to National News Agency Nepal, noted journalist and Professor Purushottam Dahal expressed his support for holding the election, emphasizing its significance in protecting the constitution. He urged the necessity for a comprehensive evaluation of the protests that occurred on September 8-9.
Laxmi Kishor Subedi, President of the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers, suggested that the Gen Z movement emerged due to the political parties’ failure to address public dissatisfaction. He advocated for political parties to prioritize elections over the restoration of parliament and to present new agendas and fresh faces.
Journalist and activist Taranath Dahal characterized the Gen Z movement as a landmark event in Nepal’s democratic progress, deserving acknowledgment. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to guarantee the success of the forthcoming election set for March 5, 2025, stating that both the government and political parties have a role in fostering an election-friendly environment.
Kulchandra Wagle, President of the Democratic Thought Society, noted that the society has been actively organizing discussions to foster a conducive atmosphere for the upcoming House of Representatives election.
