Kathmandu: The Election Commission has officially handed over a certificate of party registration to the newly formed Nepali Communist Party (CPN). This development marks a significant step for the party as it establishes its official status in the political landscape of Nepal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, a coalition of a dozen leftist political forces, including the CPN (Maoist Centre) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and the CPN (Unified Socialist) led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, came together to form the CPN. The party subsequently applied for registration with the Election Commission. CPN leader Lilamani Pokharel confirmed the receipt of the registration certificate.
The formation of the new political entity was publicly announced during a unification programme held on November 5. Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has been appointed as the coordinator of the party. The establishment of the CPN comes ahead of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives, scheduled for March 5, 2026. The Election Commission has set November 16 as the deadline for political party registrations.
