Kathmandu: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Balendra Shah, has informed that KMC is committed to minimizing operational costs and enhancing the quality of its services.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Mayor Shah, during the 31st anniversary function of KMC, highlighted that the remit of house rent tax has been expanded, ensuring that the tax paid by citizens is utilized for their benefit. He provided insights into various infrastructure-related projects such as road upgrades and traffic light installations. As part of the nighttime urban beautification campaign, 13,340 electric lights have been installed across Kathmandu. In the last fiscal year, KMC executed infrastructural projects valued at Rs 2.86 billion, with heritage conservation accounting for Rs 910 million of this investment.
The local level has successfully reclaimed 208 ropanis of public land, valued at Rs 23 billion. Emphasizing local empowerment, KMC is prioritizing locally available resources and skills to promote entrepreneurship. The transfer of indigenous skills is being facilitated through the ‘one ward: one scheme’ initiative.
Mayor Shah also mentioned that KMC’s regular work areas encompass economic, social, and administrative sectors. Urban sanitation and e-governance are being advanced with equal focus.
