Kathmandu: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari announced the government’s plan to establish a special mechanism to address fraud in the foreign employment sector. This mechanism will include a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police and will focus on prosecuting individuals involved in fraudulent activities related to foreign employment. The announcement was made during a program held in observance of International Migration Day.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Bhandari emphasized the importance of this initiative as a foundation for promoting good governance. The proposed mechanism will consist of members from various divisions, including anti-trafficking and crime control, to ensure comprehensive oversight and enforcement. The minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve domestic employment opportunities and to value and utilize the skills acquired by citizens through foreign employment.
During the event, the Nepal Labour Migration Report 2024 was unveiled, a collaborative publication by the Ministry and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Numan, Country Director of ILO, stressed the importance of collaboration in ensuring the safety and security of migrant workers. He affirmed ILO’s willingness to work with the government on policy reforms, labor rights, and migration management.
Dr. Krishna Hari Puskar, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, mentioned that while migration cannot be halted, a strategic approach to its management is essential.
