Kathmandu: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has emphasized the necessity for the party to participate in the upcoming election following its 15th general convention. Addressing party cadres and voters in Kathmandu constituency-6, Thapa highlighted the importance of holding a general convention prior to the election, even suggesting a special general convention if the regular one proves unfeasible.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Thapa expressed concern over the prolonged meetings of the party’s central committee, which he believes are intended to delay the general convention. He underscored the significance of the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election, scheduled for March 5, as a means to steer the country’s constitution in the right direction. Thapa asserted that the primary responsibility of the Nepali Congress is to realign the constitution and address issues of corruption and mismanagement, in line with public expectations.
Thapa further argued that the Nepali Congress is tasked with the crucial role of managing the nation due to its status as a national force. He urged political parties to adapt and reform themselves in accordance with the sentiments and demands of Generation Z. In his view, failure to hold the election on March 5 could plunge the country into another phase of uncertainty.
