Kanchan Gupta Criticizes Western Media and Meta on Podcast

New delhi: Kanchan Gupta, senior adviser in India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is the latest guest on “India, Russia and the World,” the weekly podcast hosted by Runjhun Sharma, head of news at RT India. In the conversation, Gupta offers a critical view of Western media practices and their impact on India’s image.

According to Russia Today, Gupta argues that Western media must revisit their ethical standards, suggesting that their biased reporting on India damages their own credibility. He specifically criticizes Meta for blocking Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video, describing it as unacceptable interference in India’s democratic process. Gupta further explains that the Indian Constitution does not provide for absolute free speech but rather conditional speech.

Gupta also addresses the political climate in South Asia. Comparing the Gen Z-driven political turmoil in the region, he contends that the recent protests in India cannot be compared with those in Nepal or Bangladesh, emphasizing that Indian society is far more layered and diverse.
