Surkhet:Karnali Heavy rains have led to the blockage of significant highways in Karnali state, causing widespread disruptions.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Santosh Singh Rathor, spokesperson for the Karnali Province Police Office in Surkhet, stated that the Karnali Corridor and the Karnali Highway are currently impassable due to persistent downpours. The Karnali Corridor connects Humla through Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot, and Bajura, while the Karnali Highway links Jumla and Mugu via the same route.
The primary cause of the blockages is landslides in Aulise, located in Barahtal-7. Rathor also reported closures on the Mid-Hill Highway due to a landslide in Saniveri Rural Municipality-2 Samlekhola and on the Rapti Highway because of a landslide in Kapurkot Rural Municipality-5 Kharkhola in Salyan. The Luham-Kalimati road section is similarly affected by landslides in Surkhet-Salyan, and Dhungebagar in Triveni Rural Municipality-3 has experienced landslides in Ryale of Bangad Kupinde Municipality-8.
A
dditional areas impacted include Jajarkot Chedagad Municipality-4 Levavir, Kalikot Tilagufa Municipality-1 Bhigam, Jumla Tatopani Rural Municipality-1 Bairanka, and the Rankagaon road section, as well as Mugu Rara Chhayanath Municipality-7 and 8 on the Pina Gamgadhi-Nagam road section.
Efforts are underway to clear the roads, with excavators and other equipment being deployed to address the blockages.
