Dodhara-Chandani Bridge Pillar Collapse Halts Traffic

Kanchanpur:A pillar of the Dodhara-Chandani suspension bridge over the Mahakali River has collapsed, bringing traffic to a standstill.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the collapse occurred this morning, leading to the halt of movement for both people and vehicles between Bhimdatta Municipality and Dodhara-Chandani Municipality. Tek Bahadur Rawat, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, stated that approximately six meters of the bridge require repair, causing significant commuting difficulties.

District Police Spokesperson Rawat explained that the damage affected five to six meters of the bridge on the Dodhara side, resulting in a rise that impedes traffic flow. In response, a police team has been deployed to manage the situation.

The suspension bridge, an iconic structure built two decades ago, serves as a vital link connecting Dodhara-Chandani to the country’s mainland. Ram Bahadur Bohara, the ward chairperson of Bhimdattanagar Municipality-13, noted that a technical team is set to inspect the site to assess the damage. Bohara mentioned that the collapse was due to water force, necessitating the suspension of traffic across the bridge.
