Men’s alliance sought for gender equality


Rights activists have argued that men’s alliance with women could help achieve gender equality.

Taking part in an “Interactive Workshop on Bridging the Gender Gap: Men as Allies for Gender Equality” organised by the Australia Awards Alumni at the Embassy of Australia here Friday, they were of the view that men’s collaboration and participation is warranted for achieving gender equality.

Head of Development at Embassy, Kavitha Kasyanathan, highlighted the national and international scenario of gender equality and pressed for men’s engagement in bridging the gender gaps.

“Men have performed as allies in the success of most of the women. Either at home or in politics, men’s alliance is unavoidable,” she added.

Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Dr Sindhu Prasad Dhungana, said it was necessary to first believe that women face discrimination to find ways for addressing their issues.

It is urgent to develop the culture of realising women’s issues, he asserted.

ibya Devi Gurung called on one and all to unlearn negative narrations against gender equality to bring social transformations.

Founder of Global Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Education, Khem Lakai, and women rights activist Nirmala Maharjan called for working together to raise awareness on gender equality.
