Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted raids in different places across the country on the allegations of corruption, irregularities, and money embezzlement. ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam stated that, based on a complaint, the ACC Dinajpur district office executed a raid against allegations of money embezzlement at the Dinajpur Roads and Highways Department yesterday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC collected records related to a project mentioned in the complaint from the office and took statements from all concerned. Subsequently, alongside engineers and representatives of the relevant departments, the ACC team visited the stockyard to inspect various materials procured for road markings, signal posts, traffic signs, furniture, and other fixtures.
In another operation, the ACC Naogaon office conducted a raid at an orphanage in Mahadebpur following allegations of misappropriating government and private grants by fabricating a list of orphans. The team gathered information locally about three institutions cited in the complaint, namely the Autistic and Intellectually Handicapped School, Rabeya Noorani Hafezia and Model Ebtedayi Madrasa, and Rabeya Ishahak Private Shishu Sadan at Mahadevpur of Naogaon district.
Furthermore, a team from the ACC head office carried out operations in the city based on complaints of extortion from transports and harassment of passengers on various routes. During this drive, the ACC team recorded opinions from bus drivers, helpers, and individuals. They also collected information regarding the city corporation’s parking charges in different city areas, subscriptions taken for mosque development, and amounts taken for the salary and allowances of the transport owners’ association staff.
The ACC’s Habiganj district office performed a raid at Abdullah Ismail Hifzul Quran Madrasa and Orphanage in Nabiganj, following allegations of financial misappropriation by fabricating a list of orphans. The team engaged with madrasa students, the governing body, and the Upazila Social Service Officer, gathering all necessary documents related to the complaints.
The ACC teams are expected to submit detailed reports to the commission based on the information collected during these drives.
