Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former Housing and Public Works Minister Sharif Ahmed and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mymensingh-2 constituency. The allegations involve amassing assets through abuse of power.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC Director General (Prevention) M Akhtar Hossian addressed journalists today, revealing that Sharif Ahmed illegally acquired moveable and immovable assets valued at approximately Taka 3 crore, 83 lakh, 50 thousand. Additionally, he conducted suspicious transactions and conversions amounting to Tk 42 crore, 68 lakh, 81 thousand, and 816, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
A case has been filed today under the ACC Act. The ACC has also highlighted the involvement of Sharif Ahmed’s relatives, including his wife Shefali Begum, father-in-law Ghulam Mostafa, mother-in-law Jahanara Begum, and brothers-in-law Md Shah Alam and Mohammad Shameem, in earning significant sums through corrupt practices.
The ACC has further recommended the issuance of notices for filing separate wealth statements.
