Birgunj: The Birgunj checkpoint is under close watch after the increasing cases of Covid infection in the neighboring country, India. The authorities have ramped up efforts to monitor individuals entering Nepal through this critical entry point.
According to National News Agency Nepal, all people entering Nepal are being kept under surveillance, with brief health check-ups conducted on passengers arriving by train. This measure is part of a broader strategy to curb the potential spread of the disease across the border.
A meeting of the Parsa district health crisis management committee, held on May 29, resulted in a decision to enhance health checks in the border area. The committee’s efforts aim to prevent the intrusion of the virus into Nepal, particularly through busy transit points like Birgunj.
Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Rajesh Man Singh, recently inspected the health desk set up at the border. He directed officials to increase their vigilance and ensure that preventive measures are strictly implemented. “In view of Covid cases on the rise in the bordering country, we’ve been aware and put in place the preventive measures. The health desk at the border will be further effective,” he stated.
