Bangladesh and China Commit to Strengthen Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership

Beijing: Bangladesh and China have pledged to enhance their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, marking a significant milestone as both nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Bangladesh Ambassador to China Md. Nazmul Islam and Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ambassador Islam and Vice Minister Sun emphasized the importance of deepening the existing cooperation while exploring new avenues for collaboration. They reiterated their mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing principles such as mutual non-aggression, non-interference in internal affairs, equality, mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.

The discussions underscored the need for high-level visits and exchanges to revitalize bilateral mechanisms. Ambassador Islam extended an invitation to Chinese investors and businesses to capitalize on the investment opportunities in Bangladesh, particularly highlighting the upcoming Bangladesh Investment Summit in Dhaka from April 7 to 10.

Vice Minister Sun expressed China’s full support for Bangladesh’s economic prosperity, advocating for increased collaboration in sectors such as tourism, education, academia, think tanks, and local government. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral cooperation, especially within the UN system, to ensure that the benefits of multilateralism are accessible to all nations, particularly developing countries.

In celebration of five decades of diplomatic ties, Bangladesh and China plan to launch joint programs, including the release of a commemorative logo and recognition of individuals who have significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral relations. Initiatives like opening medical tourism avenues are also on the agenda, with three hospitals in Kunming identified for treating Bangladeshi patients and another specializing in cancer treatment under consideration.

These initiatives, spearheaded by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, reflect the ongoing efforts of both nations to enhance cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in various fields.
