Tokyo: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today called upon the top Japanese investors to invest more in Bangladesh. He made this call in a bilateral meeting with representatives of Japan’s one of the largest trade groups NEXI (NIPPON), Mitsui, Marubeni, HSBC, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, and JT in Tokyo.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Commerce Adviser highlighted that the current bilateral trade volume between Bangladesh and Japan is about US$4 billion, with Japan being one of Bangladesh’s top five export destinations. He emphasized the presence of more than 350 Japanese companies already operating in Bangladesh and expressed expectations for increased investment from Japan.
Bashir described Japan as an important strategic partner for Bangladesh and expressed pride in the relationship, noting Japan’s role as a close friend and major development partner. He also encouraged the Japanese side to import more products and manpower from Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the Japanese business representatives assured continued business engagement and plans to increase investment in Bangladesh. The meeting was attended by Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md. Daud Ali, JETRO Representative Iuji Ando, JICA Representative Yasuyuki Murahashi, Commercial Counselor to Japan Morarji Desai Burman, and representatives from the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Later, the Commerce Adviser held a meeting with Watami Group Head Miki Watanabe.
