DHAKA: Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh today paid a courtesy call on Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik at his secretariat office. During the meeting, they discussed the recent devastating floods in Bangladesh and the infiltration of forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the High Commissioner inquired about the flood rehabilitation plan and discussed disaster shelters, first aid, disaster early warning systems, and other priority issues. Faruk E Azam highlighted the sacrifices made by Bangladesh, particularly the people of Chattogram Division, in providing shelter to a large number of Rohingyas. He emphasized the need for development activities for locals and improving the quality of life for Rohingyas.
The High Commissioner expressed interest in the matter and assured full cooperation. He commended Bangladesh for offering refuge to forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens and recalled the humanitarian contributions from the international community to the Rohingya population. Ajit Singh also conveyed his intention to construct disaster-resistant houses in the Rohingya refugee camps.
Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Kamrul Hasan and senior officials of the ministry were present at the event.
