Chitwan: The Chitwan National Park (CNP), Sauraha, has successfully transferred a male rhino named ‘Mainla’ to the Central Zoo located in Lalitpur. Mainla, who was under the care of the National Trust for Nature Conservation, was part of a relocation initiative.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the decision to move the 23-month-old rhino was made by the Ministry of Forests and Environment on May 7. The transfer took place on Wednesday, as reported by Abinash Thapa Magar, the Information Officer of CNP.
Mainla was originally brought from Bardiya National Park. The Ministry’s plan also includes relocating a female rhino named Puja, who is approximately 30 months old. Magar noted that although preparations were in place to send Puja on Wednesday, unforeseen circumstances delayed the transfer.
