Constitution Day: Former President Yadav Appeals All to Focus on Election


Kathmandu: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has called on all citizens to exercise restraint during the current challenging period in the country and to move forward while upholding national unity.



According to National News Agency Nepal, speaking on the occasion of Constitution Day and National Day 2082 BS, Dr Yadav, who is recognized as the first President of democratic Nepal, emphasized that any wrongdoing within a democratic system should be addressed in accordance with the law. He urged those involved in the recent Gen Z demonstrations, which demanded an end to corruption and the promotion of good governance, to cooperate with and support the incumbent interim government. This government has been tasked with organizing parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.



Dr Yadav described Constitution Day as a historic occasion and highlighted the importance of focusing on the upcoming election. He mentioned that if amendments to the Constitution are necessary, they should be pursued through the parliament that will be formed after a fresh electoral mandate is received. He further stated, “In a democracy, the rights of citizens lie within themselves. Citizens are the true masters of the nation.” He reiterated that the Constitution ensures that sovereignty, the form of governance, and the government itself are derived from the people.
