Mustang Sends Over 13,000 Himalayan Goats to Other Districts for Festive Season

Mustang: More than 13,500 Himalayan goats, popularly known as Chyangra, have been sent to other districts via Mustang district for this year’s festive season.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Expert Centre Office reported that the Himalayan goats from Mugu, Jumla, Dolpa, and other Himalayan districts were transported to different markets from Mustang. Veterinary Doctor Lalmani Aryal of the Centre revealed that of these goats, 6,000 originate from farms within Mustang district, while 775 goats were brought from Jumla, 500 from Mugu, and 5,400 from Dolpa.

An additional 1,000 goats are anticipated to be exported from Mustang in the near future. Last year, more than 9,000 Himalayan goats were distributed to other districts from Mustang, marking a significant increase in this year’s numbers. Dr. Aryal noted that almost 20 percent more goats have been sent to other districts this year compared to last year.

The demand for mountain goat meat is particularly high in the districts of the Gandaki Province. The meat from these goats, originating from cold alpine regions, is considered to be both tasty and nutritious. This year, the price of each mountain goat has reached up to Rs 35,000, according to a trader from Kaski, Purna Bahadur Ranabhat.
