Constitution Day: President Paudel Appeals for Timely Election

Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has reiterated the urgency of holding elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) on the slated date, seeking cooperation from all sides to this regard. The Head of the State emphasized the importance of averting a political vacuum through consensus, as there was no immediate measure available to form a new government from the HoR.

According to National News Agency Nepal, President Paudel addressed a special ceremony at his office, Shital Niwas, on the occasion of Constitution Day, underlining that a political crisis was mitigated by mandating the new government to hold the HoR election within six months. He urged political parties, administration, officials, intellectuals, and citizens to unite for the successful and timely conduct of the election.

President Paudel highlighted the historic achievement of the constitution, which accords equal rights to all citizens irrespective of caste, religion, and community. He recounted his commitment to democracy and governance, reflecting on his early political involvement at the age of 17. The President called for adherence to democratic principles, good governance, and morality, urging everyone to work towards the aspirations of Nepali citizens.

He expressed optimism about the country’s transformation path, emphasizing the interim government’s responsibility to hold elections and rebuild infrastructure within six months. Recalling the Gen-Z protests, President Paudel acknowledged the human casualties and urged for systemic changes to curb corruption and promote good governance, employment, and social justice.

The event was attended by prominent figures including Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, and other former leaders and representatives of Gen-Z.
