Contracts of Idle and Neglected Projects to Be Terminated, Says Minister Ghising

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, announced that contracts for inactive and long-neglected projects would be terminated. He emphasized that projects in a dilapidated state should not retain their contracts.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Ghising made these remarks during a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN). He clarified his position on contracts with contractors who have left projects idle for extended periods. Ghising stated that contracts for such development projects will be terminated if they have become sick due to negligence or other reasons.

He noted a growing trend where contractors agree to amounts lower than the estimated cost without actually executing the project. He stressed the importance of accountability, warning that there will be no work unless there is a presence of fear, confiscation of bank guarantees, or penalties for contractors who take contracts at lower amounts and fail to deliver.

Minister Ghising further articulated that the recent political changes in the country demand rapid work progress without delays. He underlined that delays in construction and contracts would not be tolerated.
