Maoist Centre Dissolves Central Committee to Convene General Convention

Kathmandu: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to dissolve its central committee to transition it into a General Convention Organizing Committee. A meeting of the Maoist Centre’s office bearers held on Sunday proposed to bring this motion to the forthcoming central committee (CC) meeting.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Maoist Centre’s Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota informed the media after the meeting that the proposal to transform the existing central committee into the General Convention Organizing Committee will be presented as an agenda in the upcoming CC meeting. Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to lead the newly formed General Convention Organizing Committee.

Sapkota emphasized that institutional perspectives would be formed from the party’s official forum in light of the changing political scenario. The party has scheduled its standing committee meeting on September 24 and the CC meeting on September 25 to deliberate on the proposal put forth by the party office bearers.

The Maoist Centre’s decision emerges amidst the backdrop of Gen-Z protests, which have increased pressure on established political entities. Sapkota noted that preliminary discussions were conducted concerning the ideals, procedures, and processes of leadership transition.

During the meeting, Maoist Centre Chairman Prachanda briefed party leaders on the altered political landscape and advocated for moving forward in a novel manner. Additionally, the meeting called upon the country’s patriotic, democratic, and progressive forces to unite given the current political circumstances.
