Lahan: Coordination and cooperation among three tiers of government has been stressed for the conservation of the Chure region, arguing that the Madhesh districts in the Chure region were facing increasing adverse impacts of degradation. During a dialogue organized by the Province Ministry of Forest and Environment focusing on ‘Chure’s soil and water’ at Lahan, speakers emphasized the importance of unified action by all layers of government to curb the degradation of the Chure region.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Ministry Secretary Uddhav Bahadur Ghimire highlighted that the Chure region is linked to livelihood in Madhesh, underscoring the need for coordinated conservation efforts. He suggested that local leaders play a leading role in the campaign to conserve Chure by taking all sides together.
Province Forest Director in Madhesh, Jagannath Prasad Jaiswal, pointed out that illegal exploitation of natural resources and deforestation are major causes of groundwater depletion. He warned that delays in implementing water recharge schemes could worsen the situation.
Chief of the Division Forest Office in Dhanusha, Binod Singh, presented the current status of activities launched for Chure conservation. The program was attended by chiefs of division forest offices from Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari, and Udayapur districts, as well as representatives from community forest users’ groups and local government officials.
