Dhaka: A court here has imposed a travel ban on former MP AKM Sarwar Jahan from Kushtia-1 constituency and his wife Mahmuda Siddiqa. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib today passed the order, responding to an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the anti-graft watchdog of the state.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC stated in its application that Mahmuda Siddiqa abused the power of her husband, AKM Sarwar Jahan, to gain personal financial benefits and acquired assets inconsistent with their known sources of income. The ACC had previously filed a lawsuit against them on charges of corruption, and the case is currently under investigation, as noted during the hearing of the petition before the court.
Reliable sources mentioned that Mahmuda Siddiqa and her husband AKM Sarwar Jahan are attempting to flee the country by transferring their illegally acquired property, as claimed by an ACC officer. The investigation officer emphasized that it is crucial to impose a travel ban on them to ensure a fair investigation of the case.
