Dhaka: A court here today ordered to seize tax files of former health minister Zahid Maleque and his son Rahat Maleque over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC in its plea mentioned that a case has been filed against the former health minister under section 27 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, sections 4 (2) and 4 (3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, and section 5 (2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
The anti-graft body further noted that a case has also been filed against Rahat Maleque under the same sections, along with section 109 of the penal code. The ACC emphasized that freezing the tax files is essential for the proper investigation of the case.
The same court, on February 6, had previously ordered to freeze a total of 28 bank accounts belonging to Zahid Maleque and Rahat Maleque due to similar graft allegations.
