Kathmandu: The Children as Zone of Peace (CZOP)-National Campaign has called on the upcoming government to refrain from merging the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen with other ministries in the process of reducing the overall number of ministries.
According to National News Agency Nepal, CZOP Chairperson Tilottam Poudel issued a press release on Thursday emphasizing the sensitivity of the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen. The statement highlighted that merging or splitting the ministry could have long-term adverse effects.
Children constitute approximately 33.84 percent of the nation’s total population. The press release warned that weakening this ministry by merging it with others could severely impact the protection of child rights and hinder the promotion of children as the future pillars of society.
