Dhaka: Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin has praised the growing interactions between Bangladesh and Uruguay, expressing Dhaka’s intent to deepen political and economic relations with the Latin American country. This statement was made during a meeting with Alberto A. Guani, the non-resident Ambassador of Uruguay accredited to Bangladesh, who paid a courtesy visit to the foreign ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ambassador Guani shared the initiatives and accomplishments of the Uruguay Embassy since his credentials were presented in 2024. He proposed developing a new strategy to enhance bilateral relations centered around innovation and technology. Ambassador Guani highlighted Uruguay’s global reputation for its advancements in ICT, manufacturing, and renewable energy, and noted that both countries advocate for economic diplomacy.
During the meeting, Foreign Secretary Uddin reiterated the Interim Government’s commitment to reform and conduct free and fair elections, emphasizing the government’s dedication to rebuilding the nation with a focus on the public interest. He stressed the importance of economic and trade discussions, mentioning that Bangladesh and Uruguay have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate regular bilateral political consultations.
Foreign Secretary Uddin highlighted Bangladesh’s trade and investment potential, citing factors such as the country’s demographic dividend, investment-friendly environment, large pool of fresh graduates, and thriving freelancing culture. He also suggested the exchange of trade and business delegations to further enhance cooperation between the two nations.
