Dhaka: The Police Headquarters announced plans to reinstate policemen who were previously dismissed but have since won their appeals at the Appeal Tribunal. In a statement released tonight, the Police Headquarters confirmed that preparations are underway to facilitate the reinstatement of these officers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the statement clarified that only those officers who filed departmental appeals against their dismissal or removal orders and won their cases at the Appeal Tribunal would be considered for reinstatement. Legal barriers prevent the consideration of officers who did not appeal their dismissals. Moreover, officers facing criminal charges related to moral turpitude, financial corruption, or other offenses will also not be eligible for reinstatement.
During the tenure of the previous government, the Police Headquarters received 1,522 applications seeking reinstatement for dismissed police personnel across various ranks. The applicants comprised 1,025 constables, 79 Naiks, 180 ASIs/ATSIs, 200 SIs/Sergeants/TSIs, 10 inspectors, and 28 non-police members. To address these appeals, a committee led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) was established in August last year to review the applications for reinstatement. The committee has since submitted a report with recommendations to the Police Headquarters.
The Police Headquarters emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice for the dismissed policemen, urging them to refrain from any acts of indiscipline as the reinstatement process unfolds.
