Monowara Sardar, mother of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) ward councilor Muktar Sardar, died of old-age complications at a hospital in the city today.
She was 78.
Monowara, wife of valiant Freedom Fighter and Ekushey Padak winner Akhter Sardar, breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a city hospital this afternoon.
She is survived by three sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers.
In a message of condolence, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Monowara Sardar.
He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
