Manang: The Election Commission has announced the postponement of the scheduled by-election for the Province Assembly in Manang district, which consists of only one election constituency.
According to National News Agency Nepal, all activities related to the by-election that was scheduled for November 3 in Manang’s Province Assembly (B) have been cancelled. The postponement decision, made on October 5, was communicated via a press release by EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
The EC stated that the election was cancelled until a new schedule is announced, following the implementation of a curfew due to a Gen-Z protest that began on September 8. This protest has disrupted the implementation of election-related programs that were planned according to the original schedule.
Discussions were held on Sunday by the Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari along with other Election Commissioners. They met with Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha, among others, to discuss preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. During this meeting, the EC provided an update on their election preparations and activities.
