Ekushey Book Fair-2025 Begins at Rajshahi University for First Time


Rajshahi: A five-day Ekushey Book Fair 2025 began at Rajshahi University (RU) campus today for the first time in its history. Hosted by the RU authority, the event is being held at the Buddhijibi Chattar (Intellectual Square) aimed at encouraging people, especially children to develop reading books from an early age.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib inaugurated the book fair this afternoon as chief guest, emphasizing the importance of book reading for building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh. He stated that book reading can enlighten people and make them perfect. Other notable attendees included Pro-vice-chancellor Prof Mayeen Uddin, Registrar Prof Iftikharul Alam Masood, Treasurer Prof Matiar Rahman, and Professor Emeritus Dr AKM Azharul Islam.



VC Prof Saleh Hassan also highlighted the significance of books in acquiring knowledge about the outside world, stressing the need to reach books to the doorsteps of readers to encourage them to read. The fair features 78 stalls set up by various publishers, showcasing a range of books.



Prof Hassan Naquib reiterated that books enlighten people and that easy and creative books are essential for the mental development of children. He expressed hope that the fair will significantly contribute to achieving its goals and sought cooperation from all parties to ensure its success.



The fair will remain open for all from 9am to 9pm every day until February 24. Alongside the book fair, various events, including cultural and literary programs, will be held every evening on separate themes at the same venue.
