Ex-President Bhandari Pays Homage to Late Kamal Koirala


Kathmandu: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has emphasized the significant role of the late Kamal Prasad Koirala in the Nepali political landscape, recognizing him as a multifaceted figure. During a commemorative book release event in the federal capital on Thursday, she highlighted Koirala’s unique approach and personal principles, which he maintained despite his political lineage.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the event marked the unveiling of a book published by the Kamal Prasad Koirala Memorial Publication Committee. Bhandari praised Koirala for his bold writings that championed national sovereignty, social justice, and equality, and noted his lifelong adherence to communist ideologies. She also mentioned Koirala’s simplicity and humility, asserting that he prioritized service to the people and nation over personal luxury and positions.



In addition, Nepal Congress leader Sekhar Koirala remarked on Kamal Koirala’s distinctiveness as the sole communist in the Koirala family. Giriraj Mani Pokharel, a leader of the Nepali Communist Party, called for a critical reassessment of the diminishing support for communist parties in Nepal. Renowned journalist Kishor Shrestha remembered Koirala as an honest and humble individual. Kamal Koirala passed away a year ago at the age of 87.
