Extensive Review Must Before Constitution Amendment: Maoist Centre Chair Dahal

Kathmandu: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized the necessity of an extensive review before proceeding with any amendments to the constitution. Speaking at the ‘People’s Cultural National Award-2081’ event, held on the 27th Cultural Resistance Day, Dahal highlighted the importance of consultations to evaluate the need for constitutional changes. He stated that the amendment process should only proceed if these consultations reach a conclusive agreement.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dahal expressed his firm stance against any attempts to undermine the political gains achieved through the people’s struggle and sacrifice. He assured that such attempts would be thwarted, reiterating the impossibility of restoring the monarchy. Dahal also expressed optimism about the unification of parties and groups with scientific socialism as their political goal, indicating his commitment to fostering unity among leftist forces.

Dahal acknowledged the critical role that cultural artists have played in the country’s political transformations. Meanwhile, Maila Lama, a politburo member of the Nepal Communist Party, conveyed that regressive attempts to steer the nation backward would not succeed. He advocated for unity among Maoist factions to combat such regressive actions.

During the event, Dahal also launched ten books authored by Maoist Centre standing committee member and former minister Satya Pahadi. Additionally, he honored the families of cultural martyrs, recognizing their contributions to the nation’s cultural and political landscape.
