Kailali: The District Administration Office in Kailali has called upon both farmers and the business community to adhere strictly to the government’s fixed support price for paddy. This move comes in response to grievances voiced by farmers who claim they have not been compensated fairly for their produce.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the District Administration Office issued a press statement urging stakeholders to comply with the government’s decision, which fixed the support price for paddy between Rs 3,463 and Rs 3,628 per quintal. Despite this mandate, farmers report receiving payments below the established minimum support price.
Keshav Pathak, a farmer from Kanchanpur, highlighted the challenges faced by farmers due to what he describes as a monopoly by traders. Pathak revealed that business persons have offered no more than Rs 2,650 per quintal, significantly less than the government’s stipulated support price.
Pathak also pointed out that massive imports from India have contributed to the farmers’ inability to secure a favorable price for their paddy, further exacerbating the situation.
