FNCCI Urges Action to Secure Investment Environment Amid Protests

Kathmandu: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has called for immediate measures to prevent any further deterioration of the investment climate in Nepal. This appeal comes in the wake of recent protests on September 8 and 9, which saw acts of arson and vandalism targeting multinational companies like Ncell and Chaudhary Group’s CG Park and Chandragiri Hills.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the FNCCI conducted an inspection of the affected sites, with its president, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, expressing concern over the negative impact such incidents have on the investment environment. Dhakal emphasized the protests, led by the ‘Gen-Z’ movement, resulted in significant damage to private properties, disrupting daily production and employment.

Dhakal urged the government, political parties, and all relevant stakeholders to prioritize creating an investment-friendly environment and ensuring security in the country. He highlighted the private sector’s substantial contribution of over 81 percent to Nepal’s economy and more than 86 percent to employment, stressing the need to protect industrialists and businesspeople to safeguard these investments.

The FNCCI has previously raised concerns with the Home Minister and Finance Minister, urging them to enhance security measures as the sense of insecurity has grown among investors and businesspersons.
