Landslides Disrupt Major Highways in Nepal


Kathmandu: Floods and landslides triggered by continuous rains over the past few days have led to the disruptions of major roadways across the country.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire reported that the Bhotkhola section of the Koshi Highway has been completely disrupted. Additionally, another stretch at Ekua in Makalu rural municipality remains closed. In Sirise, Katari municipality-8, a landslide has led to the closure of the Siddhicharan Highway.



Floodwaters have also severed road access to the Miteri Bridge, which connects Rasuwa with China. Moreover, landslides have blocked the Araniko Highway at Kodari and Daklang in Bhotekoshi rural municipality, Sindhupalchok.



In Chitwan, a landslide at Tui Khola in Ichchhakamana rural municipality-5 has obstructed the Narayangadh-Muglin road. Police stated that landslides that began Friday evening continued till this Saturday morning, hindering efforts to clear the debris.



Efforts are currently underway to remove the debris in the affected areas, as confirmed by DIG Ghimire. Meanwhile, the Kaligandaki Corridor, Ratna Highway, East-West Highway, and Galchi-Trishuli Road remain operational for one-way traffic.
