Dhaka: A court here today sent former vice-president of banned Bangladesh Awami League (BCL), Moshiur Rahman, to jail in a case lodged over vandalizing and arson during the anti-discrimination student movement. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order as police produced Moshiur before the court and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of the probe in the case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of New Market Police Station arrested Moshiur from the capital’s Science Laboratory area earlier today. The arrest follows allegations stemming from an incident where cadres of Awami League and its front organizations were accused of vandalizing different rooms within the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) in the Science Laboratory area. They were also accused of setting various items on fire, with the intent to blame students for these actions.
The case regarding these events was officially filed on November 25, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent and details of the incident. The authorities have expressed a commitment to thoroughly investigating the matter to ensure justice is served.
