Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba highlighted the significance of gender sensitivity as a crucial element of social transformation. During a workshop on gender sensitivity organized by the Nepali Congress at its central office in Sanepa, President Deuba emphasized that a respectful, safe, and inclusive society can be achieved through heightened sensitivity toward gender issues. He assured that the party would undertake necessary initiatives to implement ideas and suggestions related to gender sensitivity in collaboration with all concerned parties.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Deuba also mentioned that social democratic political parties from various countries are part of a social democracy network. This network is actively engaging in contemporary political, economic, and social debates within the Asian region. He noted that social democracy serves as a robust platform for fostering inclusive laws centered on development, equality, and justice.
President Deuba paid tribute to Nepali Congress leader and founding President of the Nepal Women’s Association, Mangala Devi Singh, acknowledging her efforts in advocating for women’s right to vote in the first municipal council election held in 2004 BS.
Additionally, NC Joint General-Secretary Bhishma Raj Angdambe emphasized the importance of effectively implementing gender equality measures. Another Joint General-Secretary, Mahalaxmi Upadhyay, reiterated that gender equality is a concern that extends beyond women, affecting society as a whole. Usha Rawat, President of the Nepal Women’s Association, underscored the necessity of raising societal awareness about gender equality.
