New York: Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Raj Kumar Gupta, has expressed the government’s positive stance towards the indigenous peoples. Minister Gupta made these remarks during the 24th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, held at the UN Headquarters in New York on Monday. He is leading the Nepali delegation to the session.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during his visit, Minister Gupta engaged in bilateral meetings with Deputy Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, and other ministers from various countries. Spokesperson of the Ministry, Kali Prasad Parajuli, mentioned that the discussions revolved around mutual welfare, interests, and the potential for expanding relations and collaborations in the future.
The 24th session of the Forum focused on discussions related to economic and social development, culture and environment conservation, education, health, and human rights. Minister Gupta is also scheduled to address the event on the theme of implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples within United Nations Member States and the United Nations system. The address will cover identifying good practices and addressing challenges.
