Kathmandu:The government has successfully reclaimed 302 ropanis of land that had been encroached upon in several locations. This recovery effort is part of the implementation of the High-Level Commission on Investigation and Protection of the Government and Public Land’s report, known as the Rawal Commission, from the year 2052 BS.
According to National News Agency RSS, the reclaimed plots are located within Kathmandu Metropolis in wards 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, and 29, amounting to a total of 302 ropanis. The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs, and General Administration initiated the Report Implementation Committee to oversee this process, with Chief Survey Officer Ramesh Gyawali coordinating the efforts.
The committee includes under-secretaries from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the chief of the respective land administration and survey office, local level coordination section chief, and an officer from the Department of Land Management and Archive. The survey officer at the Survey Department acts as the member-secretary.
The Rawal Commission, led by then government secretary Ram Bahadur Rawal, conducted a study in 2052 BS on government and public land status, recommending the safeguarding of lands that were encroached upon or improperly registered under individuals’ names. Despite the passage of time since the report’s submission, the government has now taken action to enforce its recommendations.
