Govt. Urged to Manage Devkota Museum for Cultural Promotion


Kathmandu: The speakers at a literary programme have emphasized the necessity for government intervention in managing the Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota Museum.



According to National News Agency Nepal, during an event organized by Nepal Academy at the Museum in Maitidevi, marking the 117th birth anniversary of Mahakavi Devkota, Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Bhupal Rai, highlighted that the Museum’s prominence would significantly enhance if overseen by the Ministry of Culture. Chancellor Rai noted that despite the Museum’s inception on Laxmi Jayanti in 2079 BS, widespread public awareness regarding its existence remains limited.



Rai further expressed that the Museum should be managed with genuine intent and developed accordingly, while acknowledging the challenges posed by a scarcity of individuals in Nepal who possess the cultural understanding necessary to appreciate the Museum’s value.



In addition, Prof Dr Padma Prasad, son of Mahakavi Devkota, remarked on the spiritual depth present in the myths depicted in Devkota’s poetry, emphasizing the poet’s exceptional imaginative capacity, linguistic prowess, and foresight.



The programme also featured Dr Balkrishna Adhikari, who presented a concept paper on Mahakavi Devkota. Critic Sudha Mainali offered insights on the paper. The event was enriched by poetic and musical performances by academicians and poets, including Baba Basnet, Prava Bhattarai, Manoj Neupane, Samiran Chalise, Sanu Gulmeli, Shova Dulal, Mission Adhikari, Usha Sherchan, and others.
