The High Court has summoned the President and the Secretary of Naogaon Bar Association to explain why no lawyer appeared for the accused in a theft case at the house of a lawyer of the Bar.
A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar passed an order asking them to appear before the court on August 30 to give an explanation.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik confirmed the matter to BSS saying that, “There was an incident of theft at the house of a lawyer of the Naogaon bar. As no lawyer stood for the accused, the judicial magistrate produced him before the court and granted him bail after taking his oral statement.”
“The Naogaon Bar passed a resolution, and referred it to the District Judge to take action against the Magistrate. When the accused applied for transfer of the case for this reason, the High Court summoned the President and General Secretary of Naogaon Bar and told them to explain further,” he added.
The Attorney General also said that the court has directed the district judge and the district commissioner to ensure the presence of the president and secretary of the bar association on the said date.
