ICSB Celebrates 9th Convocation for Chartered Secretaries


Dhaka: The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) organized its 9th convocation for the qualified chartered secretaries who successfully completed their professional examinations and other requisites of the institute. The ceremony took place at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lutfey Siddiqi, the Special Envoy on International Affairs to the Chief Adviser, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, and Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Secretary (Routine Charge) of the Ministry of Commerce, were present at the program as special guests. Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, was the convocation speaker. The program was chaired by M Nurul Alam, Acting President of ICSB, according to a press release.



In his speech, Lutfey Siddiqi congratulated all qualified chartered secretaries and underscored that they have a significant opportunity to serve both the corporate world and the government in developing the country. He highlighted the importance of chartered secretaries in building standard corporate institutions and their pivotal roles in working with the Board of Directors to make strategic decisions. Lutfey also emphasized the role of chartered secretaries in controlling governance culture and diversity of representation systematically.



Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur expressed his expectation that new chartered secretaries could play an important role in ensuring good corporate governance practice in Bangladesh by following standard guidelines. He also mentioned their potential to change the corporate culture through imminent reforms in corporate laws, rules, and regulations.



Md. Abdur Rahim Khan thanked ICSB for holding its 9th convocation and noted that chartered secretaries have a crucial role in shaping the corporate landscape by ensuring the efficacy of corporate governance mechanisms. He described their role as challenging yet important in bridging the gap between the board of directors and shareholders.



Convocation speaker Professor Niaz Ahmed emphasized the importance of governance in all aspects. He advised the graduates to maintain a ‘work-life balance’ for enduring success and encouraged them to embrace all opportunities that come their way.



Session Chair M Nurul Alam acknowledged the convocation as a milestone for the graduates and described it as the starting point of a new chapter in their professional lives. A considerable number of graduates participated in the convocation.



A convocation profile was released by Abul Fazal Mohamed Rubayat, Chairman of the Education Committee of ICSB. Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Examination Committee of ICSB, introduced the awardees to receive certificates from the chief guest. At the end, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Treasurer of ICSB, delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the institute.
