Kathmandu: The insurance companies have received claims amounting to Rs 22.25 billion for losses incurred during the Gen-Z protests that took place on September 8 and 9. The highest amount of claims was reported from Bagmati Province, with firms in the region submitting 1,343 claims totaling Rs 17.97 billion, as reported by the Nepal Insurance Authority.
According to National News Agency Nepal, 18 insurance companies, including micro insurance firms, have received a total of 2,478 applications for claims. These claims were made for damages caused to public and private companies due to vandalism and arson.
The Nepal Insurance Authority noted that the volume of insurance claims could potentially increase, considering the severity of the damage to physical properties during the protests. Notably, The Oriental Insurance Company and Siddhartha Insurance Company received claims of Rs 5.22 billion and Rs 5.8 billion, respectively.
Applications for insurance claims cover damages to property, vehicles, engineering and contractor risk, and other categories. The Authority further disclosed that 322 claims were made from Koshi Province, 246 from Madhes, 184 from Gandaki, 202 from Lumbini, 22 from Karnali, and 159 from Sudurpaschim Province.
