KATHMANDU: The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has announced that it will host a major international conference, ‘In Sight Live Nepal’, in Kathmandu from May 9 to May 11, 2025. The event aims to bring together global experts and stakeholders in the field of eye health to discuss strategies for eradicating blindness and improving eye care worldwide.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the conference will attract representatives from various sectors involved in blindness prevention and eye health, including international charities, eye hospitals, educational institutions, and commercial entities. Local members of IAPB, such as Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Nepal Eye Hospital, Tilganga Eye Institute, and BP Eye Foundation, will also play a significant role in the event.
The previous IAPB conference took place in Mexico earlier this year, marking a continued effort to address eye health challenges on a global scale. The head of IAPB South East Asia, Yuddha Dhwoj Sapkota, stated that the Kathmandu event will see participation from approximately 500 representatives across 100 countries, underscoring the international commitment to this critical health issue.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar Mishra, Executive Director at Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, emphasized that the conference will focus on developing strategies and plans for eye health up to the year 2030. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure sustainable and effective eye care solutions are implemented worldwide.
