PM Oli Extends Greetings for Tamu Lhosar Celebration


KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has conveyed his best wishes to Nepali citizens both domestically and internationally in celebration of Tamu Lhosar, a significant cultural festival for the Gurung community.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Prime Minister shared his message on social media, emphasizing the cultural richness of Nepal. “We are immensely rich in culture. Best wishes to all on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar,” he expressed. The festival is a vibrant display of tradition, marked by Gurung women donning traditional ornaments and attire such as the Makhamali blouse, Ghalek, Patuki, and saree. Gurung men participate in the festivities by wearing cultural garments including the Bhoto, Bhangra, and Kachhad, and engaging in lively cultural dances, as mentioned by the Prime Minister.



Tamu Lhosar is celebrated on the 15th of the Nepali month of Push, which falls between December and January. This period is noted for having the longest night of the year, after which the nights are believed to gradually shorten. In recognition of the festival’s importance, the government has declared a public holiday, allowing citizens to partake in the celebrations.
