Italian National Stranded at Makalu Base Camp Due to Severe Weather


Makalu: An Italian national who reached the Mount Makalu base camp at Makalu Rural Municipality-2 has been stranded due to bad weather and snowfall. Italian national, Jesus Martinez Novas, was left stranded when he ascended some distance from the Makalu base camp.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police office, Kumar Prasad Mainali, informed that the rescue of Italian national Novas, who was at an altitude of around 5,700 meters, has not been made possible since last Tuesday due to incessant rainfall and snowfall. He shared ongoing efforts for his rescue. The high mountainous areas of Sankhuwasabha district have been receiving continuous rain and snowfall since Tuesday.



“We have sought cooperation from helicopters for the rescue, but adverse weather condition is causing trouble for the rescue,” DSP Mainali shared. In view of incessant rain and snowfall in the high hilly areas, the District Administration Office has issued an alert notice advising not to trek in the areas above 4,000 meters.
