Itahari: The Karuna Foundation Nepal, an organization working for the welfare of persons with disabilities, is set to distribute artificial hands to 428 individuals across the country.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Foundation announced that the distribution of free artificial hands will commence in Koshi Province as the first phase of the support campaign, conducted in collaboration with the German Hands Project. Dinesh Dhakal, the Foundation’s Associate Director, stated that the program will be held in Itahari, Koshi Province from November 3 to 12, where 204 people will receive artificial hands at no cost.
A notice was recently published inviting applications from those in need of artificial hands, resulting in 428 nationwide registrations. Beneficiaries from Koshi Province were prioritized in the initial phase. The Foundation reported that of the beneficiaries, 10 are from Bhojpur, three from Ilam, 61 from Jhapa, 25 from Khotang, 14 from Morang, 19 from Okhaldhunga, 22 from Panchthar, eight from Solukhumbu, eight from Sunsari, two from Tehrathum, and 25 from Udaypur.
The campaign aims to help individuals who have lost limbs regain self-confidence and lead independent lives. The Foundation highlighted that the number of people losing their hands each year due to accidents, electric shocks, infections, or other causes is increasing in Nepal. Currently, more than 50,000 people across the country use various types of prosthetic limbs.
